FYA First Nations and Common Ground have been working together to share learnings from two truthtelling and storytelling programs: Our Truth Our Way and Creator’s Circle. Our Truth Our Way is an FYA storytelling and truth-telling program designed to upskill young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to build their confidence and create better, safer pathways into the media. Common Ground’s Creators Circle is a small group of First Nations storytellers who work closely with Common Ground to dream up and create content, projects and collaborations. We are exploring the different ways we can collaborate with Common Ground to strengthen sovereign storytelling for young First Nations people, finding synergies between the programs, including a period of co-design.
FYA has provided Common Ground a grant of $90,000 over two years to support this process and the Creator’s Circle, and the teams have held a number of workshops, including with Our Truth Our Way founders Rachel Hocking and Aiesha Saunders.
